Self-Help with SJ

Take it from me, if you too are full of yourself, relief is just around the corner. Welcome to self-help with SJ.

Let's start with honesty. Being full of yourself is a chronic affliction with no reliable cure. In fact, many are so full of themselves they don't even know it. The afflicted are actually those who have to put up with them. Us.

So the real relief I'm talking about is for those who have to put up with us on a regular basis. And it might make us a little easier to be around and that's good for me.

That's right, self-help with SJ.

It's hard to be full of yourself. All that certainty requires a heck of a lot of work to maintain. Living full of yourself without scaring the neighbors requires some kind of support. Genius is a heavy load and you are full of it. Me too.

In my lifelong battle, I've always tried to be humble. Humility is a better delivery system. But it's hard to be all that and keep it from spilling over. It's best when the humble is real, something you can't hide with your brilliance no matter how dazzling.

Granted, with a face made for radio, I had a bit of an upper hand in keeping the full of myself in check. But Meat's steady reminder couldn't keep it under control.

Until two years ago. This is self-help with SJ.

I found a way to fill me with something other than myself, namely humility and plenty of it. You can do it too with one easy step.

Go toothless.

That's right. Pull your teeth, every single one of them. I don't mean you, get a dentist. Just get them out of your head. Then go for at least a year with no replacements.

I guarantee humility will come to you in buckets. Do all the things you'd normally do, go to the places you'd go, work the job you work every day. See the difference in how folk look at you, how people treat you. It is an eye opening experience and one certain to deflate even the fullest of themselves.

You don't need teeth to eat humble pie. It's self-help with SJ.

We do not recommend utilizing any of the other factors involved in SJ's loss of teeth.  We also do not recommend following SJ's two year path. One is enough. You can only be so humble.

The pay off for the full of themselves types is how good it feels to finally get those replacements. I've had my dentures for about a month now and I'm starting to get acclimated to them. It's a funny thing to have straight teeth for the first time in my life.

Don't worry, not a chance I'll lose the humility I've built in the last 22 months. When I got those new dentures, I had a full head of hair. Two weeks later it fell out for the third time. I'm not sure what's shinier, my new teeth or my new bare head.

Who said it's hard to be humble. This has been self-help with SJ.
