The Connman Returneth

Warren Zevon wrote the story about 40 years ago.  Looks like the Connman tried to make the movie.

If you aren't familiar with Zevon's song "Lawyer's, Guns and Money", this would be a great time to expand your songlist.  Go ahead and make this a multi-media experience.

While you do that I'll ponder exactly how desperate a guy in Honduras has to be to go to Pizza Hut.  Or just how delusional a guy is to try to live out a song like nobody's ever heard it.

So by now I hope you've listened.  And you're welcome.

Mr. SSI was hiding in Honduras.  He was a lawyer with money, so all he needed was guns.  It's 2017, so there has to be a Russian involved somewhere.  It's right there in the song.

There's been a lot of fan cleaning since the feds came down on Mr. Connman. And the fan is much easier to clean than the splatter.

Lives have been lost.  LIves have been turned upside down, innocent lives.  It was the lawyer who broke the law, not his unfortunate clients.

Did all of his clients deserve their check?  Of course not.  The Connman's instructions to some folk was legendary and not repeatable in polite company.

For you who aren't polite, refer to the above fan reference and use your imagination.

But the facts are most of them did.  Most of his clients between certain years lost their support outright.  The ones who could prove their disabilities at the time were able to resume benefits.

Unfortunately, the Connman destroyed records.  In some cases, the records he destroyed were the only ones the clients had of their disability. Today those folks are between a rock and a hard place.

Want to guess what they're down on?

The reason you should care is not because they're humans like you and shouldn't lose their only support.  Although of course that is a good reason to care and if you actually did we wouldn't be talking about this.

The reason is simple economics.  When 1000 people in and around Pike County lose a $1,000 check per month, that's $12,000,000 lost in our economy each year.  That's lowball numbers by any estimate.

Businesses thrive when there is more money in the economy not less money in the economy.  That's exactly how economics in America, and everywhere else, works. No matter what Republicans try to tell you.

When the Connman was flown into Bluegrass Field on Tuesday evening and loaded into a big black Tahoe, it sounded like the song was over.  In a way, he looked relieved stepping back on Kentucky soil.

Maybe Eric just got tired of the song and Pizza Hut was as close as he could get to his big house in Pikeville.  Maybe he just had a cravin for some stuffed crust.  Does it matter?

Unlike the guy in the song, there's nothing innocent about the Connman. He did it and he knew it and there's still a wad of cash somewhere to prove it.

There's another Zevon song that's coming.  Please pay no attention when he's crying "Poor Poor Pitiful Me".
